Ways to Boost Your Libido and Feel Sexier - Part 1

Uncomfortable underwear, push-up bras, shaved legs. Why is trying to feel sexy such a chore? Sometimes, as women, we just aren't in the mood - and that's okay. But, did you know that your lack of desire could be more than just the result of a long day? Some women struggle to ever get "in the mood" and begin to wonder if something is wrong with them. Well, we're here with the RepHreshing truth to tell you that something may be off balance, but it is nothing to be ashamed of! One-third of adult women in the U.S. suffer from a low sex drive, according to a recent study (WebMD). Things like birth control (and other prescription drugs), stress, and fatigue can negatively affect your libido. RepHresh wants to empower you to feel sexier and enhance your sex drive. So, we've put together a two part series on libido boosters. This week our blog is all about things you can eat and drink to help boost your libido.

  1. Eat your fruits and veggies
    You were told as a child that fruits and veggies were good for your vision, skin and overall immunity. But now we think you're old enough to know that they are great for your sex drive as well! According to Dr. Oz, "the compounds present in watermelon may have a "Viagra-like" effect, relaxing blood vessels and increasing blood flow." Another sexy fruit is banana, which contains bromelain, a natural anti-inflammatory enzyme that aids in triggering greater production of testosterone.

    Certain vegetables, like asparagus, are also perfect when you're trying to get in the mood. Asparagus is rich in folate, which regulates the production of histamine. Do you know why this is so great? Histamine is the chemical that is released during an orgasm! Go ahead; request a side of asparagus on your next date night (Dr. Oz).

  2. Try something sweet
    Dr. Oz also explains the libido-boosting effects of dark chocolate and peanut butter. The cocoa in dark chocolate contains powerful antioxidants (bioflavonoids) that unclog blood vessels for better flow. Dark chocolate can also prevent a decline in estrogen and increase the presence of the feel-good chemical dopamine. Peanut Butter is also great for female sexual arousal due to the monounsaturated fats (Dr. Oz). Tomorrow's lunch: one peanut butter and dark chocolate sandwich, please.

  3. Eat Halibut
    Halibut, the fish, is high in magnesium, effectively raising blood testosterone levels. You may wonder what testosterone has to do with you. Well, women naturally have testosterone in their bodies as well and "studies show that women with a greater sex drive have higher levels of testosterone" (Dr. Oz).

  4. Sip Ginseng Tea
    Are you a lady who enjoys a nice cup of tea? Next time you need a libido boost, trade your Earl Gray in for ginseng. Ginseng tea contains the compound ginsenoside which heightens sexual satisfaction. Bonus: It is also great for guys and works to prevent or reduce erectile dysfunction (Dr. Oz). Next time your guy suggests stopping by the bar for a drink, opt for some tea at the coffee shop around the corner.

  5. Watching your weight? Breathe in something sweet-smelling
    There is no need to pack on the pounds to get in the mood. Try a scented candle warmer with cinnamon and vanilla wax. These scents are known to put people in the mood immediately (Huffington Post).

Remember, a low libido is nothing to be embarrassed about, it happens to so many women for a number of reasons.
